Breather Valve (Pressure / Vacuum Vent)

A pressure and vacuum relief valve fitted to the tank roof or shell. It relieves excess internal pressure by venting vapour to atmosphere and admits air when the tank develops a vacuum, protecting the tank shell and roof from deformation. Flame-arresting screens can be fitted where required. Set pressures are selected to suit the tank design pressure and the vapour pressure of the stored product, and the valve is sized to the tank's maximum filling and emptying rates.

Advantage:
1. A single device handles both over-pressure and vacuum relief, which is simpler and cheaper than separate valves.
2. Protects the tank from buckling or rupture caused by pressure and vacuum excursions during filling, emptying or thermal breathing.
3. Optional flame-arresting screens prevent flashback into the tank vapour space.
4. Low maintenance with field-adjustable set pressures; gaskets and pallets are replaceable in service.
5. Available in aluminium, carbon steel and stainless steel to match the stored product.
6. Sized in accordance with API 2000 and EN ISO 28300 venting requirements.
