Flame Arrester

A device fitted in a tank vent, gauge hatch or vapour line that prevents a flame from propagating into the tank. It works by passing the vapour through a matrix of narrow passages - typically a crimped metal ribbon or perforated plate element - that removes heat from the flame front and quenches it. End-of-line, in-line and detonation-arresting configurations are available, and the element can be removed for inspection and cleaning.

Advantage:
1. Prevents flashback ignition of the tank vapour space - a fundamental fire-safety device for tanks storing flammable liquids.
2. Fully passive: no moving parts and no external power, so protection is always available.
3. The removable element allows inspection, cleaning and replacement in service.
4. Available with replaceable elements and as a combined breather-valve unit.
5. Corrosion-resistant construction to suit the vapour stream and the installation environment.
6. Tested and certified to EN ISO 16852 and equivalent requirements.
