Foam Dam

A low, continuous barrier fixed around the rim of a floating roof, usually the outer rim of an external floating roof or the rim of an internal floating roof, which creates a shallow annular trough between the dam and the tank shell. During a rim-seal fire, foam delivered onto the roof fills this trough and forms a foam blanket that covers the seal area. It is normally supplied together with the fire-fighting foam delivery system and the rim seal.

Advantage:
1. Keeps the foam where it is needed, directly over the rim seal, instead of letting it run off the roof.
2. Forms a stable, deep foam blanket for rapid and reliable rim-seal fire extinguishing.
3. A simple, low-cost addition to the roof that significantly improves fire-fighting effectiveness.
4. Can be supplied as one integrated package with the rim seal and the foam delivery system.
5. Corrosion-resistant material and simple bolted construction, requiring no maintenance in normal service.
6. Can be retrofitted to existing floating roofs.
