Full contact floating roof

Near-zero vapour space - up to 99% evaporation-loss reduction, the best emission control of any IFR type.

A full-contact internal floating roof is a floating roof whose deck is in complete contact with the stored liquid - there is no vapour space between the deck and the liquid surface. The roof is built from aluminium or stainless-steel panels supported by buoyancy cells and covers the liquid surface continuously to the tank shell. Because the vapour space is eliminated, evaporation loss and fire risk are reduced to the minimum achievable with an internal floating roof. Available in aluminium, stainless steel or a hybrid of both.

Advantage:

1. Near-zero vapour space - the highest emission-control performance of any IFR type, with up to 99% reduction in evaporation loss.
2. Maximum utilisation of tank capacity thanks to the low-profile deck.
3. No vapour pockets, so no flammable atmosphere can build up above the deck.
4. Every module is factory leak-tested for vapour tightness and can be individually inspected in the field.
5. Available in aluminium, stainless steel or hybrid construction to suit the stored product.
6. Robust enough to carry all sealing systems, including both primary and secondary metallic seals.
7. No support legs or cables penetrating the deck, which removes the associated leak paths.

Honeycomb Type IFR (Adhesive-bonded)

Adhesive-bonded honeycomb deck: stays flat, adds little weight, and every panel is individually replaceable.

A full-contact honeycomb internal floating roof in which the aluminium honeycomb core and the top and bottom face sheets are bonded with a structural adhesive under controlled pressure and heat. The honeycomb core gives the panel a very high stiffness-to-weight ratio while keeping the deck fully liquid-contacting. Panels are supplied as standard modules that pass through the tank manhole and are assembled on site, so no shell opening and no site welding are required.

Advantage:

1. Structural adhesive bonding avoids heat distortion of the aluminium face sheets, so the deck stays flat and dimensionally accurate.
2. The adhesive layer damps vibration and isolates dissimilar-metal contact, reducing galvanic corrosion at joints.
3. Up to 99% reduction in evaporation loss; the honeycomb core eliminates vapour cavities and provides high buoyancy redundancy.
4. Panels are individually replaceable - a damaged or leaking module can be exchanged without dismantling the whole roof.
5. High strength-to-weight ratio keeps the total roof load low, so the roof can be suspended or leg-supported.
6. Lower manufacturing cost than a fully welded honeycomb deck, with a shorter delivery lead time.

Honeycomb Type IFR (Brazed Type)

Fully vacuum-brazed, metallurgically bonded panel - no adhesive to age, outgas or de-laminate.

A full-contact honeycomb internal floating roof in which the aluminium honeycomb core and the face sheets are joined by vacuum brazing in a furnace, forming a metallurgical bond over the whole contact area rather than a mechanical or adhesive joint. The result is a monolithic, vapour-tight sandwich panel with no organic binder at all. It is the highest-grade honeycomb deck construction available and is suitable for high-temperature and 100%-aromatic service. Its service life and reliability are far superior to those of an adhesive-bonded honeycomb floating roof.

Advantage:

1. Full metallurgical bond over the entire panel - the highest joint strength and stiffness of any honeycomb deck construction.
2. No organic adhesive, so no ageing, outgassing or temperature limit from a binder; suitable for high-temperature and 100%-aromatic service.
3. Continuous metal path across the deck gives excellent electrical continuity for static-charge dissipation.
4. Vapour-tight panel with no glued seams to delaminate - long service life with minimal maintenance.
5. High resistance to chemical attack and corrosion, as the whole panel is aluminium alloy.
6. A differentiated, premium construction that only a very small number of manufacturers worldwide can supply.
7. Panel material can be either aluminium alloy or stainless steel.
