Internal Floating Roof
Pontoon Type IFR
Lowest-cost IFR: every part passes through a standard manhole, so there is no shell cutting and no site welding.
A pontoon-type internal floating roof (IFR) is installed inside a fixed-roof storage tank. It floats directly on the stored liquid and rises and falls with the liquid level, covering the liquid surface to suppress the vapour space and cut VOC evaporation. The deck is supported by a ring of sealed extruded-aluminium pontoons, and the deck plate sits above the liquid surface, so only the pontoons contact the product. It is manufactured in aluminium alloy or stainless steel. All components pass through a standard tank manhole and are assembled inside the tank, so no shell opening and no site welding are required.
Advantage:
1. Lowest-cost and fastest-to-install IFR type - all parts fit through a standard manhole, no shell cutting and no site welding.
2. Modular assembly; erection is normally completed within weeks, minimising tank downtime.
3. Pontoons are factory pressure-tested for buoyancy and tightness; the roof is designed to remain afloat with two pontoons flooded.
4. Compatible with the full range of refined products, including gasoline, naphtha, kerosene, methanol and aromatics.
5. Lightweight structure adds minimal load to the tank shell and foundation - ideal for retrofitting existing fixed-roof tanks.
6. Easy to dismantle and re-erect for tank cleaning, inspection and bottom repair.
7. Available in both aluminium alloy and stainless steel.
